Djokovic wins trial, may still be deported from Australia

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Federal District Court in Melbourne overturned the decision to revoke the Australian visa of the first racket of the world Serb Novak Djokovic. Nole, as the fans call him, arrived in the country on January 5 to participate in the Grand Slam tournament, but due to the lack of a coronavirus vaccine and a reasonable medical removal from it, he was detained by the border service and placed in a quarantine hotel.

Djokovic won the trial. Within 30 minutes, he was to be released from immigration detention, all personal belongings should be returned, as well as all expenses for expenses reimbursed. It would seem that the case is closed and the nine-time winner of the Australian Open can finally breathe out, calm down and start preparing for the competition. However, this story, which had already become a detective story, was immediately continued. Even during the meeting, it became known that the Australian authorities decided to continue pursuing the leader of world tennis.

The Interior Ministry case against Djokovic was based on technical grounds: there were typos in the documents, Novak did not submit the necessary papers on demand and as soon as possible. The judge considered that the Serbs should have been given more time, and saw procedural violations in this. The Ministry of Internal Affairs agreed with the arguments.

But the claims still remain with the Ministry of Immigration and Citizenship, and its head Alex Hawke is ready to use additional powers to re-annul the Serb visa and expel him from the country. Now they will understand the validity of the medical withdrawal. And here, we recall, there are inconsistencies in Djokovic's testimony. He indicated that he tested positive for covid on December 16. Only now the tennis player did not go into self-isolation, but took part in charity events and communicated with children without a mask. It turns out that he either was not sick or violated covid protocols.

So while Novak fans were celebrating their victory by playing tennis in a plaza in downtown Melbourne, news exploded, citing Djokovic's father, that the world's No. 1 had been detained again. Then everything happened like in a Hollywood movie, and the plot was broadcast by local reporters and the media. First, the police drove up to the office of Djokovic's lawyers, where he followed the online court session. Although the information about the arrest was not confirmed, fans and a tennis player began to flock to the building. And when a car with tinted windows drove out of the underground parking lot, Serb fans, deciding that Novak was inside, surrounded her, climbed onto the roof and chanted "Freedom to Zero". Dispersed them using tear gas.

Djokovic's brother turned off communication with journalists as soon as he heard an uncomfortable question about inconsistencies in Novak's testimony about the medical withdrawal from vaccination

While Novak is really at large, as the Minister of Immigration will not rush to a decision. Initially it was reported that he had four hours, but, as it turned out, this condition had to be met in order to leave Djokovic in custody. And so Alex Hawk can cancel the visa by his own decision in any of the coming days. Here is a lack of confidence in the legality of medical release and the honesty of a particular athlete, and doubt that the transferred coronavirus, in principle, can be considered a sufficient reason for medical exclusion.

Recall that against the backdrop of the scandal with Djokovic, the Australian Federal Border Service double-checked the documents of other Australian Open participants without vaccination, but with a medical lead. As a result, the Czech woman Renata Vorachova was sent home, banning her from entering the country for three years.

Meanwhile

Djokovic posted a photo from the first training session on the court.

- I am very happy and grateful that the judge canceled the cancellation of my visa. Despite everything that happened last week, I want to stay and try to perform at the Australian Open, - wrote Djokovic on Instagram. - I keep my mind and focus on it. I flew here to play one of the most important tournaments in front of incredible fans. In the meantime, I can only say thank you for being there and giving me strength.

Novak's brother Djordje Djokovic also expressed gratitude to the judge for his honesty, professionalism and neutral position in this difficult situation, who, together with his father and mother, participated in a special press conference.
