SKA won the first match with Roman Rotenberg as head coach

Kunlun head coach Ivan Zanatta missed this meeting due to illness, his duties were performed by Alexey Kovalev.

SKA became the leader of the KHL Western Conference, gaining 64 points in 45 matches. Kunlun are in last, 12th place in the East with 25 points in 45 meetings. Kunlun's defeat streak reached 11 matches.

In the next match SKA will host Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod on January 7, and Kunlun will also play at home against Severstal Cherepovets the day before.
