In the doping test of the Russian tennis player Elizaveta Demina, the banned drug meldonium was found, the press service of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) reports.

Russian figure skater was disqualified for two years for doping Furosemide, a diuretic used to remove doping from the blood, was found in his sample.

Meldonium has been on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned substance list since January 1, 2016. In the first months of 2016, nearly 300 Russian athletes tested positive for doping. Later, WADA published data from a study on the timing of the withdrawal of a substance from the body, as a result of which most of the athletes were justified.

In March 2016, the substance was found in a doping test of tennis player Maria Sharapova, who later admitted to using meldonium after it became banned. The Russian was disqualified for two years, later CAS reduced her suspension to 15 months.
