The Russians responded to the Times journalist who made fun of the New Year in Russia

Russian-speaking readers of the British The Times responded to criticism of the celebration of the Russian New Year by the publication's correspondent Tom Parfitt. The American celebrated the New Year in Moscow and described his experience on the pages of the publication.

Parfitt did not like the Russians' "zeal for revelry" in the New Year. He wrote that on New Year's Eve he himself "ate Olivier salad and drank sickeningly sweet champagne."

The Times journalist chose the words to describe the New Year's celebration in Russia: "overeating, hyperactive children, tearfulness and squabbles."

Parfitt added that celebrating Christmas in Russia is "a wonderful and humble event."

The American called the celebration of the New Year in Russia vulgar. And he called the tradition of celebrating the old New Year "the last reason to get drunk."

"They have nothing left of the characters and symbols of Christmas and the New Year, you can't get overwhelmed with Western-style democratic values," wrote a Russian-speaking reader.

“Best of all, they manage to play countries against each other,” another reader came to the conclusion after reading the material.

English-speaking readers also disagreed with the author's position. Some wrote that they had been to Russia in the New Year. They celebrated the beauty of the decorated cities and the winter atmosphere of Russia
