In Russia, the new strain was first identified on December 6 in two people who returned from South Africa. By December 17, the number of infected increased to 25. They were registered in Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don. On December 25, the Ministry of Health of Russia announced that the first non-imported cases of omicron infection appeared in the country. The head of Rospotrebnadzor on December 30 said that the number of cases of omicron in Russia had increased to 103.
