Rospotrebnadzor said that there is no new COVID-19 strain in Russia

No cases of infection with a variant of the coronavirus detected in Marseille have been identified in Russia. RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Rospotrebnadzor press service.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade spoke about the development in Russia of tests that detect a strain of coronavirus

"In Russia, no cases of infection with variant B.1.640.2 have been identified," the ministry said in a statement.

Rospotrebnadzor clarified that they are keeping the situation under control. However, there is no reason to believe that a new strain of coronavirus discovered two months ago in the south of France is of interest, since it has not spread, the department added.

Earlier it became known that a new strain of coronavirus was found in the south of France, in Marseille. It is noted that a new variant was identified in 12 people who returned to the country from Cameroon. Experts do not exclude that the causative agent of this variant of the virus is common in an African country. Tests showed an "atypical combination of mutations" - 46. The new strain was named B.1.640.2.

The WHO, in turn, said that the organization has been closely monitoring the new COVID-19 strain since November 2021. In addition, WHO will continue to monitor the development of the strain, including its possible spread to other European countries.
