Russia - New Year's Eve fraudulent scheme discovered with a fake draw

Russia (bbabo.net), - Before the New Year, a scheme appeared with a fake New Year's drawing of cash prizes from large Russian retailers, aimed at stealing payment data from Russians. In order to receive a generous reward, the user must complete a small survey - ostensibly to improve the quality of service in stores. This was reported by Kaspersky Lab.

In some mailing lists, scammers claim that you can win up to 500 thousand, in others - up to 1 million rubles. To take part in the lottery, users are asked to answer simple questions, as well as send a message about the promotion to several contacts. Scammers are likely to use this condition to further spread spam and collect phone numbers. At the final stage, they ask to pay one ruble for access to the draw database. This is a fairly common technique: the user is not at all sorry for such a symbolic amount, and the attackers receive valuable banking information that allows them to steal much more.

“The problem of online fraud is not losing its relevance,” said Tatyana Shcherbakova, senior content analyst at Kaspersky Lab. “Now cybercriminals are actively exploiting the theme of the upcoming New Year holidays. prizes for simple actions. Fraudsters may ask you to enter information about a bank card or pay a commission supposedly to receive a prize. We remind you to carefully check the sites on which you leave your data and be critical of too generous offers on the network. "

In order not to fall for the bait of scammers, you should follow a few basic rules:

- do not click on dubious links in mail, instant messengers or social networks, and also do not click on advertising banners on suspicious sites;

- carefully check the website address in the address bar before entering data for payment;

- for online shopping, it is better to get a separate card, for example a virtual one, and keep small amounts on it, as well as set daily withdrawal limits;

- it will not be superfluous to install security software that will block attempts to go to a phishing or scam site or malicious advertising banners.
