In Russia, death certificates will become electronic

In Russia, from March 1, 2022, medical death certificates will become electronic throughout the country. In addition, the Ministry of Health will maintain a unified federal register of such certificates. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Rossiyskaya.ru reports.

It is noted that the formation of an electronic document will be mandatory, and not at the request of a citizen. Data on the causes of death by medical organizations will be entered into the health information system (EGISZ), and from there they will go to the Unified State Register of Civil Status Records (USR ZAGS), Rosstat and other departments.

It is clarified that the relatives of the deceased will not need to provide the document anywhere. Previously, death certificates had to be brought to the registry office in order to make a mark there.

Deputy Minister of Health Pavel Pugachev pointed out that the transition to electronic medical death certificates will save the relatives of the deceased from visiting a medical institution, and will also change the quality of statistical information.

Citizens will receive electronic medical certificates of the death of their relatives in their personal account on the public services portal.

Earlier, Vedomosti reported that State Duma deputies are preparing to introduce a draft new law on funeral business in Russia in February. The document provides for the complete replacement of the law “On Burial and Funeral Business”, which has been in force since 1996. It is proposed, in particular, to expand the circle of persons responsible for burial sites in order to solve the problem of abandoned graves. Funerals will become a public service, and ritual agencies will be included in a special register. More details - in the material.
