Russia - 17 projects of the Battle of Kursk memorial submitted to the international competition

Russia (bbabo.net), - 17 creative projects were presented by the participants of the international competition for the creation of the memorial complex "Battle of Kursk" in the Ponyrovsky district of the Kursk region. Winners will be announced around February 15, 2022. This is reported by the website of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO). The names of the authors of all creative works selected according to the results of the competition are still classified in order to select the winner as impartially as possible.

The international competition for the creation of the Battle of Kursk memorial complex was announced by the RVIO in September 2021. The date of its opening is August 23, 2023 - the day the Soviet troops defeated the Nazi troops on the Kursk Bulge. At the same time, a meeting was held in the RVIO on the problem of creating a military history museum in Kursk called "They Defended the Motherland." The museum will be dedicated to the labor and military exploits of children and adolescents during the Great Patriotic War.

The fact is that since 1977 a museum dedicated to the young defenders of the Motherland has been operating in Kursk. However, it requires updating the expositions and turning its space into an interactive place for the education of children. The implementation of this project, according to the RVIO, will not only contribute to the ideological and patriotic education of young people, but will also become a tribute to the memory of young war heroes. A design project of the future museum was presented, which received a positive assessment from the Russian Museum of Contemporary Art, the administration of the Kursk region and specialists from the Russian museum community.

The main idea of the museum's exposition is to show that children and teenagers, along with adults, fought at the front and worked in the rear. Unfortunately, as noted in the RVIO, there are still no exact estimates of how many children and adolescents were in partisan detachments, volunteered for the Red Army, and worked in the rear during the war years. This little-studied page of Russian history will receive due attention in the museum and will be further studied and immortalized.

In 2022, it is also planned to open a monument dedicated to the young defenders of the Motherland in Kursk, which will create a single space of memory of the Great Patriotic War.
