Russia begins testing a new coronavirus vaccine

Director of the Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N. F. Gamalei Alexander Gintsburg announced the start of clinical trials of a drug against coronavirus based on monoclonal antibodies. His words are quoted by TASS.

According to him, the trials will take from three to four months, and it will be possible to release the drug in the second half of spring. “But the fact that this drug is effective is already known from Western analogues,” Gunzburg said.

Earlier, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor and Chief Researcher of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Petr Chumakov said that the pandemic could end thanks to the “omicron”. According to him, a new strain of coronavirus can be called a "culmination". The virologist noted that in Russia the omicron pandemic will last about two months.

Prior to this, Gunzburg ruled out the start of paid vaccination against coronavirus in Russia, which was warned by State Duma deputy from the United Russia faction Maxim Ivanov, who said that the government plans to make vaccination against SARS-CoV-2 paid. The State Duma subsequently refuted his words.
