SpaceX's Raptor 2 engine runs stably at 300 bar in the combustion chamber. This was announced by Elon Musk on Twitter.
The Raptor engine is designed to be installed on the Starship rocket under development. It is distinguished by its operation on methane, high working pressure, reusability and complete gasification of components, fuel and oxidizer. Starship will have about 30 Raptors on the first stage, and six on the second, three each adapted for operation at sea level and in vacuum.
One of the key characteristics of an engine is the operating pressure in the combustion chamber. All other things being equal, the higher it is, the more powerful and efficient the engine is. For a long time, the record of 267 bar belonged to the Russian RD-180 engine, until in 2019 it was beaten by the Raptor during tests.
Now Elon Musk has announced that the working pressure in the new version of the engine, the Raptor 2, has reached 300 bar.
According to him, the engine runs at this pressure on a constant basis.
