Samsung to make smartphones from recycled fishing nets

Samsung, as part of its "Galaxy for the planet" program, has decided to use discarded fishing nets to produce smartphones. The company said that the new Galaxy, which will be presented this week, will be made from processed products.

Samsung emphasizes that it is phasingle-use plastic and will further increase the use of more environmentally friendly materials, including recycled products.

The company intends to process 640,000 tons of fishing nets per year.

In its 2021 report, Samsung notes that it has already reduced its use of plastic by 20% by redesigning some types of product packaging, adding energy-saving features to its products, collecting nearly 5 million tons of e-waste, and recycling 95% of manufacturing waste. The company also uses 100% renewable energy sources in the US, Europe and China. Finally, Samsung is working on the Carbon Trust Standard to reduce CO2, water and non-recyclable materials.

In January, Samsung opened pre-orders for the new Galaxy S22 line in the US. As planned, Samsung will host the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 online event on February 9 at 18:00 Moscow time, and smartphone shipments will begin on February 24.

The company has announced a new Exynos processor with AMD RDNA 2 graphics, which may be available in S22 models.
