Biden officially supported the right to repair

At a cabinet meeting, US President Joe Biden supported the right to repair and gave an update on his executive order last year. In the near future, the Federal Trade Commission will develop a set of rules for technology companies and begin to take action against violators.

Biden stressed that at the moment, users are hostages of IT giants and cannot repair their gadgets on their own. The problem affects almost all devices, from smartphones to agricultural machinery. The head of government noted that if the gadget breaks down, the user needs to contact the manufacturer or a certified dealer, and if you open the case of the device yourself, the manufacturer's warranty is nullified.

Members of the Federal Trade Commission have unanimously announced that they are ready to strengthen measures against illegal restrictions on repairs. The president said the new rules would help "millions of Americans repair electronics themselves, rather than pay big bucks for repairs or just throw away the gadget." About himself, Biden said that he was not good at technology and, in case of problems, turns to his daughter for help, but he is sure that the new regulation will be useful to a large number of people.

That same week, an Alabama farmer sued John Deer. The plai.jpg believes that the software patented by the company creates a monopoly. The rules of the Federal Trade Commission will help to solve such problems.

Also over the past year, the repair right movement has paid off. In the fall of 2021, Apple introduced the Self Service Repair program, which allows users to order original parts for Mac and iPhone directly on the company's website. Following the Cupertinians, Micfosoft released an official set of tools for repairing Surface series laptops, and later published a video with the Surface SE parsing.
