Airlines in the US have been asked not to place 5G towers near airports

American passenger and cargo airlines have asked the US administration not to place 5G towers near runways. According to them, it threatens to fail.

The authors of the appeal were American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and other companies. They addressed a letter to National Economic Council Director Brian Deese, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Steve Dixon, and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Jessica Rosenworthel.

According to airline representatives, C-Band (C-band 3.7-4.2 GHz. - RBC) 5G can disable "a significant number of wide-body aircraft" and "potentially lead to the fact that tens of thousands of Americans will be stuck abroad ".

The FAA has also warned that interference from 5G operation could affect sensitive aircraft instruments such as altimeters, as well as flights in poor visibility.

At the moment, carriers are asking not to place 5G towers closer than 3.2 km from the runways at some key airports.

In early January, AT&T and Verizon already agreed to create buffer zones near 50 airports to reduce the risk of interference. At the request of the Minister of Transport, they agreed to postpone the implementation of the network for two weeks, until 19 January. Prior to this, Verizon and AT&T committed to reducing the capacity of 5G cell towers across the country for six months.
