PlayStation 5 games from PlayStation 3

Recently, games for the old PlayStation 3 console appeared on the PlayStation 5 digital game store. This again sparked discussions that Sony plans to add backward compatibility with older platforms to the PlayStation 5.

According to VideoGamesChronicles, a typical search for PlayStation 3 games on the PlayStation 5 Store would direct users to the PlayStation Now cloud service. However, a search for Dead or Alive 5 brings users to the game's page, which costs £7.99. Separate pages for Bejeweled, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones are also reported.

All of these games have a page in the PlayStation 5 store with the corresponding price. However, users are currently unable to purchase these PlayStation 3 titles from the PlayStation 5 store. There is still a possibility that this may be a bug, however, Dead or Alive 5 for PS3 is not available on the PlayStation Now cloud service in Europe.

Just the other day, we wrote that the PlayStation 5 should be backward compatible with older consoles. The corresponding patent was filed by Mark Cerny, lead system architect for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Last December, the first rumors emerged that it would soon be launched through a new service codenamed PlayStation Spartacus, which would feature games from the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and other consoles. It's scheduled to launch this fall and will be the answer to Microsoft's Xbox Gamepass service.
