Detained Kyrgyz musician released in Kazakhstan

Law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan have released the famous Kyrgyz jazz musician Vikram Ruzakhunov, who was detained on suspicion of involvement in the riots. According to TASS, he will soon return to Bishkek.

Earlier, a video appeared in the local media in which the man said that he was a citizen of Kyrgyzstan and flew to Kazakhstan to participate in the rally. In Bishkek, the detainee was identified as Ruzakhunov. As stated in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, the musician often toured in Almaty, and he was invited to conduct concert programs. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic sent a note to Kazakhstan and called for the immediate release of the artist.

"The Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic sent a request to the General Prosecutor's Office of the Kyrgyz Republic to initiate a criminal case on the use of torture against Vikram Ruzakhunov, as well as to send an international order-request to Kazakhstan to carry out the necessary investigative actions in relation to the relevant law enforcement officers of Kazakhstan," RIA Novosti quotes a spokesman for the department's press service. According to him, the basis for such an appeal was the facts of the distribution of a video of a citizen of Kyrgyzstan Ruzakhunov, where "traces of physical torture / torture are clearly visible, as well as an obvious fact of self-incrimination on the issue of alleged participation in mass riots."

Recall that in early January, rallies began in the country against the rise in gas prices, which escalated into clashes with the police, and attacks on state institutions began. In response, the authorities declared a state of emergency across the country until January 19 and launched a counter-terrorism operation. Thousands of people were injured in the riots, there are dead. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev appealed to the CSTO for help.
