Mass events, the sale of alcohol were banned in Almaty and entry into the city was restricted

The decree on the introduction of a state of emergency in Almaty and Mangistau region due to protests provides for the introduction of restrictions on entry, exit and holding mass events, as well as a ban on the sale of alcohol. This is stated in the document on the website of the President of Kazakhstan.

The decree says about restrictions on freedom of movement, including vehicles, in the city of Almaty. Citizens will have their documents checked and searched, including cars.

Entry and exit is restricted in Almaty, mass events and strikes are prohibited. The residents of the city will be seized of weapons and ammunition, as well as poisonous substances.

"To prohibit the sale of weapons, ammunition, explosives, special means, poisonous substances, to establish a special regime for the circulation of drugs, narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors, as well as ethyl alcohol, alcoholic beverages," the decree says.

Prior to that, it was reported that the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, introduced an emergency regime in two regions of the country - in Almaty and the Mangistau region. According to the decree, the emergency regime comes into force on January 5 from 01:30 am for a period until 00:00 hours on January 19, 2022. Tokayev said he hopes for the prudence of citizens.

In the west of Kazakhstan, for several days, mass protests have not subsided due to the rise in prices for liquefied gas. Since the New Year, the cost of gas at local gas stations has increased dramatically. If last year its retail price in this region was 50-60 tenge per liter (about 10 rubles), then since the beginning of this year prices at local gas stations have increased to 120 tenge per liter (about 21 rubles).
