The UN said that they are ready for any events around Ukraine

The UN Security Council (SC) is ready for any options for the development of the situation around Ukraine and is closely following what is happening. The corresponding statement at a press conference was made by the Permanent Representative of Norway to the UN Mona Juul, whose country will serve as chairman of the UN Security Council in January, reports TASS.

Answering the question of what the UN Security Council will do in the event of an aggravation of the situation around Ukraine, she indicated that it is too early to talk about concrete steps in this case.

In turn, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarrick, expressed the hope that the result of Russia's consultations with the United States, NATO and the OSCE on security issues will de-escalate tensions in the region.

On January 4, NATO confirmed that negotiations with Russia on security guarantees will take place on January 12, 2022. The alliance noted that "the dialogue with Russia should be conducted on the basis of reciprocity, to respond to NATO's concerns about Russian actions."

It was later reported that NATO foreign ministers would hold an emergency videoconference on January 7 to discuss Russia's demands on security assurances.

On December 15, the Russian Foreign Ministry of Russia handed over to the American side drafts of an agreement between Russia and the United States on security guarantees and an agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and the NATO member states. The document, in particular, states that the United States should not create military bases in the territories of the former USSR countries that are not NATO members.
