Moldova - Gavrilitsa opposes direct negotiations with Krasnoselsky

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilica was skeptical about Vadim Krasnoselsky's proposal to discuss the settlement of the conflict between the two banks of the Dniester during a meeting with President Maia Sandu, announced on Thursday, December 30, on the Moldova 1 TV channel. Natalia Gavrilica added that these issues are being discussed at the interdepartmental level, realitatea.md reports.

“We regret that the Pridnestrovian side does not use the existing formats for negotiations, but decided to apply directly by writing letters,” Gavrilitsa said.

The Prime Minister also stated that she does not believe in the sincerity of the letters of the Pridnestrovian leader to the President of the Republic of Moldova, the government and parliament.

“These initiatives are not in line with the actions. They must first demonstrate their commitment to building trust, ”she said.

Krasnoselsky made a statement last week urging Sandu to "begin negotiations to resolve the conflict."

Earlier, Tiraspol flatly refused to deal with this issue, offering to focus on removing barriers and establishing cooperation in the fields of transport, telecommunications and finance. Chisinau has traditionally insisted on issues of a comprehensive settlement. In addition, Krasnoselsky called for an early resumption of negotiations in the "5 + 2" format (Moldova, Transnistria, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine and US and EU observers). This initiative was welcomed by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, who asked the Republic of Moldova to respond positively to Krasnoselsky's proposal.

Negotiations on the Transnistrian problem began to slow down against the background of Moldova's 2019 election campaigns, and in 2020 and 2021 the parties failed to achieve a single round of negotiations in the "5 + 2" format. The Transnistrian authorities accused Moldova of pressure and non-compliance with the agreements. In response, they suspended a number of agreements.

After her election as president, Maia Sandu made a number of harsh statements about Tiraspol last year and stated that she did not intend to meet with the Transnistrian leader, as her predecessors did.
