Russia - Putin: Ready for people like Poroshenko to grant asylum in Russia

Russia (bbabo.net), - Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is ready to grant political asylum in Russia to former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. In his opinion, his prosecution as a state criminal is excessive.

This was stated by the Russian leader following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Putin said that during the talks, which lasted more than five hours, he drew the attention of the interlocutor to the massive systematic violations of human rights in Ukraine. Including the fact that objectionable media are being closed in the republic, and political opponents are being persecuted.

“At one time, when Poroshenko was the president of Ukraine, I told him that if he had any difficulties in the future, then we would be ready to provide him with political asylum,” the Russian president said. “Then he was ironic about this issue.”

Today, Putin, by his own admission, is ready to confirm his proposals - and this despite serious differences on the issue of settlement in the Donbass. Putin noted that Poroshenko, in his assessment, "made a lot of mistakes in this direction."

Regardless, the offer still stands. "I believe that his persecution as a state criminal is an excessive bid for the success of the current leadership of Ukraine," the President of the Russian Federation emphasized. "We are ready to grant asylum to people like Mr. Poroshenko in Russia."

Recall that criminal cases were initiated against the former Ukrainian president under the articles “Financing of terrorism”, “High treason” and “Creation of a terrorist organization. Poroshenko faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
