Scholz told whose side Germany takes in the confrontation between Russia and the West

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz commented on the opinion of some Ukrainian politicians, according to which Russia is more important for Germany than Western countries, RIA Novosti reports.

“This is absolute nonsense and everyone knows it,” he said.

The dissatisfaction of part of the Ukrainian establishment is caused by Berlin's refusal to supply weapons to Kiev

Earlier, the German Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote that Ukraine had sent Germany an official request for assistance in the form of arms supplies.

Scholz said in response that Berlin was not going to do it. According to him, ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel adhered to the same position. In addition, he noted, a similar point of view of the authorities is supported by the majority of Germans, according to polls.

Prior to this, the supply of weapons to Ukraine was ruled out by German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht. She justified this by saying that the country does not supply weapons to "crisis zones" in order to avoid escalation.
