Macron pointed to the need for new mechanisms to ensure stability in Europe

French President Emmanuel Macron said that new mechanisms should be developed to ensure stability in Europe. He made the corresponding statement following the results of negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.

“It is necessary to build new mechanisms that would ensure stability in the region, but these new provisions cannot be built by revising the treaties of the last 30 years and revising fundamental principles or limiting fundamental European rights,” Macron said at a press conference following the talks.

He also called for "finding a peaceful path in Europe and a path of stability" in the region.

“Now there is still an opportunity and time for this,” the French leader stressed.

The meeting of the leaders of France and Russia was held on February 7 in the Kremlin.

Earlier, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the EU agrees that the European security structure needs to be reviewed.

Borrell also noted that the positions of Russia and Western countries on security continue to "remain far from each other."
