Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine fired after shooting at a factory in Dnipro

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree appointing Lieutenant General Yuriy Lebed as Acting Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine. The corresponding document was published on the website of the President's office.

In another decree, the Ukrainian president dismissed Nikolai Balan, who had previously resigned after a National Guard conscript shot five people at the Yuzhmash plant in Dnipro.

On January 27, in the Ukrainian Dnieper, a conscript soldier took an AK-47 assault rifle from the armory and opened fire in the guardhouse, where there were more than 20 people. The incident killed five people, including one civilian. Another five people received injuries of varying severity. After the crime, the serviceman with weapons and ammunition fled the scene. Later he was detained - he himself surrendered to the police.

After the incident, the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine opened a criminal case against the leadership of the national guard of the country under the article “negligent attitude of a military official to the service, which entailed grave consequences, committed in a special period, except for martial law” (part 3 of article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) .
