The date of the republican referendum on the Constitution was announced in Minsk

The nationwide referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is scheduled for February 27 this year. This follows from the decree of Alexander Lukashenko published on January 20, the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus reports.

The document defines the wording of the question submitted to the referendum, which is reproduced verbatim in the voting ballot: "Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?" In addition, the administration of the head of state informs that the amendments and additions to the Basic Law submitted to the republican referendum are attached to this decree.

Taking into account the requirements established by the Electoral Code, the binding legal force of the decision adopted by the republican referendum is fixed. The procedure for the entry into force of such a decision has been determined - ten days after its official publication. It is established that the decision adopted by the referendum is an integral part of the Constitution.

The Central Commission for Elections and Conducting Republican Referendums was instructed to organize the holding of a referendum, ensure the summing up of its results and exercise control over the implementation of legislation in the relevant area.

On the same day, the chairman of the CEC of Belarus, Igor Karpenko, confirmed to BelTA that the Central Commission for Elections and Republican Referendums was ready to hold it. He specified that a meeting of the commission has already been scheduled for January 21. "Methodological recommendations are ready, all information materials have been prepared," Karpenko specified.
