Makei spoke about the growing distrust between countries in the region and the world

Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei drew attention to the rapid growth of distrust between regions and countries, speaking at a meeting with representatives of Lithuanian civil society on January 18, BelTA informs.

The Minister stressed, in particular, that both countries have a common history and "the fact that you have arrived is a good sign, a good signal. Dialogue between neighbors is necessary," he stated.

“As soon as I learned about the idea of representatives of Lithuanian civil society to visit Belarus in this, frankly speaking, rather difficult, turbulent time, I unambiguously supported it. Moreover, the head of the Belarusian state was informed about this,” the minister said.

"It's no secret that our relations have not always been cloudless. There were both problematic and positive moments. This also applies to our past history. But we do not believe that this is a reason to suspend or terminate contracts," the head of the Foreign Ministry is convinced.

He focused the attention of the guests on the fact that Minsk is interested in having good relations with Vilnius. In previous years, interstate cooperation developed progressively, the parties exchanged mutual visits and calmly resolved emerging problems. "We are interested in such progressive development to continue in our relations," the minister said.

Giving an assessment of the current developments in the region, he explained that such an obvious increase in tension is the first time in the past few decades, and the states may be on the verge of a new hot war. "We would not want such a development of events. We know from our history what it is," Makei recalled. "We must do everything possible to prevent such a development of events, such a conflict."
