Xi Jinping predicted catastrophic consequences of global confrontation

If global confrontation persists between states, the world will face catastrophic consequences, Chinese President Xi Jinping said during a video message at the opening of the World Economic Forum (WEF). His words are quoted by the French news agency AFP on its Twitter.

The Chinese leader noted that he is a supporter of multilateralism, and warned the heads of other states against further attempts to build up confrontation in the world.

“Our world today is far from calm, rhetoric that incites hatred and prejudice abounds. History has repeatedly proven that confrontation does not solve problems, but only entails catastrophic consequences,” Xi Jinping recalled.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov argued that the situation in the world is helping to strengthen relations between Moscow and Beijing.

Prior to this, the Chinese Foreign Ministry called US democracy a "weapon of mass destruction."
