The media learned about the fierce disputes between Nazarbayev and Tokayev over assets in Kazakhstan

The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, is alive and is in "fierce negotiations" with the incumbent head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on the redistribution of assets in the country. This was told to the British edition of The Guardian by a former Western official with connections in Kazakhstan.

According to him, the struggle for power in the country continues. A former adviser to the ex-president of Kazakhstan, Yermukhamet Yertysbayev, told the publication that negotiations between Nazarbayev and Tokayev were ongoing.

One British source claims that the first president of Kazakhstan is currently in Kitaev, however, according to Yertysbayev, Nazarbayev is still in the country.

“Obviously, the era of Nazarbayev is over,” he added.

Nazarbayev last appeared in public on December 28 in St. Petersburg, where he met with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, the media reported that Nazarbayev visited his native village of Shamalgan near Alma-Ata from January 2 to 3 this year.
