Muslims desperately search for loved ones missing in New York fire

After a catastrophic fire in a New York City apartment building that claimed the lives of immigrants of African descent, Muslims are still desperately looking for missing relatives and loved ones.

Yusuf Javar, a Muslim from the Bronx, said he searched all the local hospitals and could not find his younger brother Haji and his wife Isata. Hadji's family lived in a fire-damaged house.

“They just tell us to call 311 and I have called this number over 40 times. Every time they tell me that there is no information. We have the right to know what happened to our loved ones, whether they are alive or dead,” Javara said in an interview with CBS Local, quoted by bbabo.net.

Three children of the missing Muslim Hadji were on vacation in their native Gambia at the time of the fire. They call Uncle Yusuf endlessly and ask about their parents, but he does not have an answer to their questions.

Another Muslim, Adam Dukure, was looking for his nephew and his family, and the news turned out to be sad for him - his nephew, his wife and three children aged 5, 11 and 12 died in a fire.

According to Imam Musa Kabbah, 17 of the dead were parishioners of his mosque. “Rely on the Almighty. There is no need to blame anyone,” he said, addressing the parishioners after the tragedy.
