Moldova - Dumbraveanu: The use of rapid COVID tests costs us our health

Moldova (bbabo.net), - Former Minister of Health Viorica Dumbraveanu does not approve of the diagnosis of pregnant women, children and people with weakened immune systems, etc. using rapid tests for Covid-19. Dumbraveanu claims that such tests often give false positive or false negative results, reports unimedia.info

“The price of the inaction of the authorities in terms of the use of rapid tests for the diagnosis of coronavirus is the health of citizens. Such situations threaten the medical system and the efforts of doctors,” Dumbreveanu wrote in a message on her Facebook page.

“This post is based on a specific case that happened to a child close to my family who is only 4 years old. Based on the positive result of the rapid test, he was admitted to a hospital that accepts patients diagnosed with Covid. Due to the presence of a rash on the child's body and the registration of chickenpox in children in kindergarten, the mother and child were placed in a separate box. Due to the absence of symptoms of Covid, at the insistence of the mother, the sample taken from the child was tested in the laboratory. The result of the PCR test is negative. Both parents also tested negative and were forced to self-isolate.

And now the harsh reality... With a false positive rapid test, in the absence of chickenpox, the mother and child had to be hospitalized in a covid ward, where they would be with infected people. What could be the consequences? The answer is unequivocal - infection. Even worse, this is not the only case.

Diagnosis of pregnant women, children, people with weakened immune systems, etc. with rapid tests gives false positive as well as false negative results; public health is at risk. At the same time, such situations compromise the medical system and the efforts of doctors.

We are being urged to learn how to live with Covid, but we must not put up with inaction. This costs us health and an unjustified burden for the medical staff,” Dumbraveanu notes.
