Russia - Moscow is ready to almost double the supply of drinking water to the Moscow region

Russia (bbabo.net), - The consumption of drinking tap water in the capital is decreasing every year. For 10 years, despite the expansion of the city and the construction of new residential areas, it has decreased by almost 40 percent. Instead of the previous 216 liters per day, each Muscovite now has 127 liters of water.

Four water treatment plants monthly produce three million cubic meters of clean drinking water from the Moskva River. This is twice less than the pledged and previously used capacities. The day of December 31, 1995, when the city poured out 7.5 million cubic meters of water, remains a record one. If we divide this volume by the number of inhabitants, then the average per person was 370 liters per day! But over time, more and more citizens began to use modern, more economical household appliances, installed meters in their apartments. As a result, consumption has dropped significantly.

The modernization of the systems of Mosvodokanal, which supplies water to the taps of Muscovites, has also contributed to saving resources. The length of the water supply networks of the city is more than 13 thousand kilometers. “Automatic control has now been introduced, starting from water intake, its preparation and delivery to the consumer,” said Andrey Fomushkin, head of the central dispatching department of Mosvodokanal JSC. “Has there been an accident? The pressure in the network immediately drops. about 40 brigades. The accident is eliminated as soon as possible, and large losses of water are not allowed."

Moscow water is well purified, so there are always buyers for it

The freed up resources have already found a use. “In many cities, the quality of tap water leaves much to be desired,” the expert said. “Residents of the Moscow region, for example, complain about a strong admixture of ferruginous compounds. Therefore, a buyer was found for our product. In 2018, an agreement was signed between Moscow and the region for the supply of tap water” .

Like Muscovites, this water reaches consumers without losing its useful qualities and taste, as laboratories test it for 184 physicochemical, microbiological and hydrobiological indicators. Now capital water is supplied to residents of Mytishchi, Balashikha, Lyubertsy, Kotelnikov, as well as a number of city districts - Dzerzhinsky, Lytkarino, Vidnoye, Krasnogorsk, Khimki, individual settlements of Leninsky, Odintsovsky and Solnechnogorsky districts of the Moscow region. As Fomushkin notes, they account for about 250,000 cubic meters of water per day: "In 2023, we plan to supply 40 percent more."
