Moldova - Spinu: Auction for the purchase of electricity from other suppliers starts in February

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The government today approved a project that provides that from this year the Republic of Moldova will buy electricity from at least two sources, this will be a measure to improve the country's security in this area."In the context of recent developments in the markets of natural gas and electricity, the government proposes some measures to ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova by adjusting the regulatory framework governing the electricity sector," Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu said, unimedia.info reports.

"The project provides for a mechanism to ensure the purchase of electricity from at least two sources, as a measure to improve the security of electricity supply.

Thus, tenders for the purchase of electricity for the next period will be organized on the basis of a decision approved by ANRE, which will provide for the proportions of purchases from the first two or more participants, depending on the percentage difference between their prices," Spinu added.

“We had a situation in October and December, when the only source that now has an agreement with energy suppliers was unable to provide full capacity. Thus, this project is aimed at diversifying the sources of electricity that will be purchased.

The next electricity auction will take place in February-March, so we will move this project faster, and the electricity law will be further amended over the next year, so we have really good legislation in the field of electricity,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu.

The current contracts for the supply of electricity to consumers in the Republic of Moldova expire on March 31, 2022.
