Moldova - Spinu: The gas crisis is provoked not by the contract, but by the situation on the market

Moldova (bbabo.net), - The Vice Prime Minister believes that the "gas crisis" was provoked not by the contract with Gazprom, but by the situation on the world energy market. He stated this at a press conference on Wednesday evening, infotag.md reports.

Journalists questioned whether Spinu still considers the signed agreement between Moldovagaz and Gazprom "good", as he said in November, after the negotiations on the agreement, in which he participated. The Deputy Prime Minister answered in the affirmative.

"This crisis was provoked not by a contract, but by the situation on the world energy market. Now there are abnormal gas prices on the market. When the situation normalizes, there will be no crisis," Spinu said. At the same time, he expressed regret over Gazprom's actions.

“The actions of Gazprom are regrettable. The provision on advance payments was included in the contract in 2006. In 2011-2014, Moldovagaz accumulated debts in the amount of more than $400 million. Subsequently, this debt was repaid. But never, I repeat - "Gazprom" has never resorted to such measures. We regret this change in Gazprom's attitude towards Moldova," Spinu stressed.

Prime Minister Natalya Gavrilitsa declined to answer journalists' questions about whether Gazprom's attitude was "political pressure from Russia." "We regret that such a change in attitude has taken place. The accumulation of negative deviations has always been a normal practice in the energy sector," the prime minister stressed.
