Sesame Street composer Stephen J. Lawrence dies at death

American composer Stephen J. Lawrence has died in a hospital in Belleville (New Jersey, USA), Variety reports, citing the widow of the late Cantor Katie Lawrence.

He was 82 years old.

For 30 years, Stephen J. Lawrence has written music for the children's television show Sesame Street, for which he has composed over three hundred songs and for which he received three Emmy awards.

Also Stephen J. Lawrence created soundtracks for the romantic melodrama Sooner or Late, the film Beat the Drum Slowly, and the HBO musical The Tale of Peter Rabbit based on the book by Beatrice Potter. From 2003 until his death he worked as a conductor at the synagogue in Stamford (Connecticut, USA).

The composer is survived by his wife, brother Robert, daughter Hannah Jones Anderson, two stepsons and a grandson.
