Russia - A new series based on Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment will be filmed in Russia

Russia (bbabo.net), - Thunderstorm and Dead Souls have already been rethought in Russian modern cinema. "Woland" ("Master and Margarita") - in the process of rethinking. "Anna K" ("Anna Karenina") - too. Pictures are being filmed, the audience is waiting.

And today, the international film edition Variety on an exclusive basis published information that the Russian video service Start will shoot a mini-series based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment. The director of the novelty will be Vladimir Mirzoev.

The publication writes that the eight-episode drama series will tell about the main character of the book, Rodion Raskolnikov, as well as about his sister Duna.

"This new adaptation of the novel brings new perspectives and interpretations to the classic story. This is not only the story of Rodion Raskolnikov, but also the story of his sister Dunya," says Mirzoev. And he adds: "They are similar to each other, and they have similar personalities. But what is most important, although it is not so obvious, is that they are both heroes. They are both passionate, proud and unable to give up."

The series tells about a desperate and indebted Rodion, who was forced by a dark force to commit petty theft in a supermarket. Tormented by remorse, Rodion decides to kill an elderly woman, causing himself a painful sense of guilt and paranoia.

While the novel is set in 19th-century Russia, the series is set in present-day St. Petersburg, providing "a fresh look at one of the most philosophically important works of Russian literature of all time," Variety retells the plot, citing a Start press release. The director of photography of the picture is Vasily Grigolyunas.
